Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 Reviewed!!!

Written By Unknown on Thursday, July 25, 2013 | 2:31 AM

Hi Guyz, I would like to thank you for appreciating my first review about Google Nexus 7. Therefore I am back with another review, this time about the famous Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. I hope that you will also enjoy this review which I wrote by myself.

Samsung had started its 7 inch tablet series in 2010 lauching Samsung Galaxy Tab which was one of the first Android tablets. The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 launched in 2012 really should have been Samsung's chance to shine. Unfortunately for Samsung, Google has come along with its own competitor, the super-cheap and very powerful Google Nexus 7. Samsung has fitted a 1GHz TI OMAP 4430 dual-core processor which is backed by a healthy 1GB RAM and is also equipped with PowerVR SGX540 GPU. Its 4000 mAh battery carries the load of your usage. It carries Android OS 4.0, which is quite laggy but is upgradable to 4.1. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is available in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB sizes, making it a truly budget option. You can add to the built-in storage by adding a microSD card up to 64GB in size, so the low cost 8GB version won't cripple media lovers. It is truly a budget device as the 8GB version can be picked up from £137, while the 16GB model is availabe from £180. So, this device can surely overcome other tablets.

Reasons to Consider this Device:

1) PowerVR SGX540 GPU:
PowerVR GPU provides high quality graphics for gaming and includes additional compatibility of apps for devices with this particular GPU. This device is recommended for gamers if you are a gaming freak like me as it delivers you enhanced graphics. It is far more considerable then Adreno so it remains as a reason to consider this device. However it is outmatched by new emerging GPUs like Qualcomm S4 Pro and Tegra 4 Chipsets which provide Ultra High graphics for optimized games eg. Riptide GP2 and Dead Trigger 2.

2) Expandable Memory:
One of the major reasons which led people to buy this tab instead of Googles N7 is that it
supports additional memory card slot i.e. MicroSD card. It means that you are able to save your pictures, music and movies on your SD card leaving the internal memory for apps and games. Both Samsung and Google's tablets are available in 16GB and 32GB Wi-Fi versions. There's less need to buy the 16GB version of Samsung's tablet, as a microSD card slot means you can add up to 32GB more storage; the Nexus 7 is not upgradeable giving Samsung greater edge over it.

3) 3G Connection:
While Asus doesn't have a 3G version of its tablet, Samsung does, which is brilliant news if you want data wherever you go and don't want to mess around with personal Wi-Fi hotspots. Expect to pay around an extra £80 for the 3G versions over the equivalent Wi-Fi model. As Nexus 7 did not support microSD storage, it should have been equipped with 3G connections for cloud storage on the go, however Asus didn't deem it necessary, giving Tab 2 yet another edge over googles device.

4) Camera:
Another reason why Samsung prevails over Google's device is that it has both Primary and Secondary camera. Although many people reason that 7 inchs tabs are not ideal for photography and smartphones fulfill these requirements however this is clearly another gaining point for Samsung. Samsungs primary camera 3.15 MP and secondary camera is VGA which isnt too bad seeing that it is 7inchs. After taking some pictures, I found that fine detail was also there. There were even minor detail in the sky in our tests shots. Video is recorded at 720p at 30fps. It's smooth and the picture is very quite good with HD resolution. So, we can conclude that tablets are better than mobile's cameras as tested. Samsung Galaxy Gio and Galaxy y duos although having 3.15MP which is equal to Tab's, their quality is still far behind than tablets.

5) Powerful:
Samsung has provided its Tab 2 with 1GHz TI OMAP 4430 dual-core processor, IGB RAM and PowerVR GPU which is backed up with 4000mAh battery. About 1 year ago this device had gained alot of attention due to these specifications but nowadays we are acustomed to see much beefier processors now. The 7-inch screen is a 1024 x 600 TFT affair, which shuns any AMOLED love that once threatened the Galaxy Tab lineup. However it is enough to satisfy your gaming needs.

Conclusion:
Tab 2 is immensely better than other tabs, seeing the reasons above. However, Galaxy Tab 3 is now available which is better but it does not have a recognized GPU. So, its not for advanced gaming. I think its better for you people as you can enjoy the specification by staying in budget. Thank you!

There you have it folks, a complete Tab 2 review by me. If you have any query or if there is something missed by me and you want to share it, please don't hesitate. I would also appreciate some helpful tips which will promote my future endeavors to write another review. I would also like to thanks Techradar and Expertreviews for some helpful tips.
